Cheats
Cheat codes let you alter a game's behavior in real time, granting extra lives, infinite health, unlocked items, or other changes. On the Super Nintendo these were popularized by add on cartridges that sat between the console and the game, intercepting memory access to apply the codes.
How cheats work
A cheat code points to a specific location in the game's memory and forces a value there. For example, a code might lock the lives counter so it never decreases. Each game has its own memory layout, which is why codes are title specific. memory codes

- Many flash cartridges, including the FXPak Pro, support entering codes directly through their menu.
- Codes are typically stored in a small text file on the SD card, organized by game.
- You can enable or disable individual codes before launching a title.
Use codes carefully
Some cheats can crash a game or corrupt a save if they conflict with the game's logic. Test codes on a backed up save first, and disable any that cause graphical glitches or freezes. A code that works in one region or version may misbehave in another.
Beyond fun, cheats are useful for testing and accessibility. Hackers use them to reach late game areas quickly, and players who find a title too punishing can soften the difficulty. Because they apply at the memory level, no permanent change is made to the ROM or the console.
