Switchless mod

Switchless mod

A switchless mod gives you region and 50/60Hz control without drilling a toggle switch into the console. Instead, the existing reset button cycles through modes, keeping the case completely original on the outside.

How it works

Using a Super CIC++ or equivalent, the reset button gains a second function. A normal press still resets the game, while a held press or a special sequence cycles between regions and video frequencies. The power LED typically changes color to show the current mode, so you always know which region you are in.

Why people prefer it

  • No visible modification. The case stays stock with no drilled holes.
  • Convenience. Region and 50/60Hz switching are always at your fingertips.
  • Clean LED feedback. Color coding removes guesswork.

Board and region first

Switchless installs are wired according to your specific board revision and region. Identify both before ordering the chip, since pin locations and the reset circuit differ across SNES, SNES Jr, and Super Famicom boards.

This is a soldering mod on aging hardware. Take care around the CIC and reset traces, and verify continuity before powering on.
