Audio issues
Audio issues
Sound problems on the Super Nintendo range from total silence to buzzing, crackling, or one missing channel. Each symptom points toward a different cause, so listen carefully before opening the console.
No sound at all
- Confirm the audio cables are connected and the TV is not muted or set to the wrong input.
- If using an RGB or HDMI mod, verify the audio lines were wired in, since picture and sound are separate.
- Test a different cable to rule out a broken cord.
Buzzing or distorted sound
A persistent hum or crackle that worsens over time can indicate aging electrolytic capacitors near the audio circuitry. Replacing those specific capacitors often restores clean sound. caps buzz
One channel missing
- A dropped left or right channel usually means a bad connection on that audio line.
- Check the cable and the relevant solder joints, reflowing any that look cracked.
Game specific glitches
If audio problems appear only on certain titles run from a flashcart, the cause may be an enhancement chip or MSU-1 setup rather than the console. Confirm MSU-1 audio tracks are present and correctly named, and that the firmware supports the game's chip. MSU-1 channels
Isolate whether the issue affects every game or just one, and whether it is present on all outputs. That quickly separates a console fault from a cable, game, or configuration problem.
