SuperCIC region-free
SuperCIC region-free
SuperCIC is the standard internal mod for running original cartridges from other regions. It replaces or works alongside the console's lockout chip to defeat region checks and to switch video timing.
What it does
- Defeats the lockout (CIC). The console will boot cartridges regardless of their region code.
- Switches 50/60Hz. A PAL console can run NTSC games at 60Hz, and vice versa, for correct speed and display.
- Status indication. Many installs reuse the power LED to show the current region or mode.
Super CIC++
An evolved version, Super CIC++, supports a fully switchless setup where the existing reset button cycles between regions and 50/60Hz, with no extra toggle switch drilled into the case. See the switchless mod page for details.
For original carts only
You only need SuperCIC if you play physical imports. The FXPak Pro already auto-patches region for the games it loads, so flashcart-only owners can skip this mod entirely.
This mod requires soldering to small CIC pins on a vintage board. Confirm your console's region and board revision first, and practice your technique before working on the real machine.
