Methods overview
SNES modding has no software flashing step, so "methods" here means the hardware paths you can take. They fall into three groups, and you can combine them freely.
- FlashcartDrop in an FXPak Pro and load games from an SD card. No soldering, no case opening, and it covers nearly the whole library including special-chip titles and MSU-1 audio.
- Region freedomInstall a SuperCIC or Super CIC++ to defeat the lockout chip and switch 50/60Hz, enabling original imports from any region.
- Video improvementAdd an RGB bypass amp on older boards for a sharper picture, or simply use a 1CHIP / Jr board that already outputs clean RGB.
Most people stop at one
A flashcart alone satisfies the majority of owners. Region and video mods are add-ons for collectors of physical imports and videophiles, respectively. Pick the smallest set that meets your goals.
Whichever path you choose, confirm your board revision and region first; they determine which mods fit and how much benefit you will see.
