SD card preparation

SD card preparation

The FXPak Pro reads everything from an SD card, so a properly prepared card is the foundation of a reliable flashcart. The process is quick and needs no special tools beyond a card reader.

  1. Choose a good card
A modest-capacity, brand-name card is ideal. Reliability matters more than size, since a flaky card is the most common cause of save corruption.
  2. Format it
Format the card to the standard filesystem the flashcart expects, using a full format rather than a quick one for a clean start.
  3. Copy the firmware files
Place the FXPak Pro's menu and support files in the root of the card so the cart can boot its interface.
  4. Organize your games
Sort titles into folders so the on-screen menu is easy to navigate.

Keep a backup

Once your card is set up, keep a copy of its contents on your computer. If the card ever fails, you can restore everything quickly. Note that this is flashcart firmware on the card, not console firmware; the SNES itself has nothing to flash.

Safely eject the card before removing it to avoid corrupting the menu or your save files.
