Firmware updates
Flashcart firmware updates
The SNES console has no firmware, but the FXPak Pro flashcart does, and keeping it current improves compatibility and adds features. This is the only "firmware" you will ever touch on the platform.
Why update the cart
- Compatibility fixes. Updates resolve issues with specific games and special-chip cores.
- New features. Improvements to MSU-1 handling, menus, and save behavior arrive over time.
- Stability. Bug fixes make loading and saving more reliable.
How it works
- Back up your cardCopy the SD card contents to your computer before changing anything.
- Copy the new filesPlace the updated FXPak Pro firmware files onto the card, replacing the old ones.
- Boot to applyInsert the card, power on, and let the flashcart load its new firmware from the menu.
Console stays untouched
This updates only the cartridge, never the SNES itself. There is no risk of bricking the console, and the process works the same on any board revision or region.
Do not remove the card or cut power while an update is applying. Wait for the menu to confirm completion before powering off.
