GCMM

GameCube Memory Manager

GameCube Memory Manager, almost always shortened to GCMM, is the go-to homebrew app for backing up and restoring memory card saves. It runs from SD through Swiss and reads or writes either an official memory card or a third-party one in whichever slot you choose.

What it does

  • Backup: copy individual saves to SD as GCI files, or capture the whole card as a raw image.
  • Restore: write saved GCI files back onto a card.
  • Delete and format: manage card contents and prepare a fresh card.

Typical workflow

  1. Insert your SD adapter and the memory card you want to back up.
  2. Launch GCMM from Swiss and pick the card slot.
  3. Choose backup, select all saves, and write them to SD.
  4. Keep the resulting GCI files in a clearly named folder.

Practical notes

GCMM writes to the card's saves directory on SD by default. Restoring will refuse if a save block is already present, so delete the existing copy first if you mean to overwrite. Region differences still apply: a save's region must match the game you intend to load.

Do this first

Before any card maintenance, run a full backup. It takes a minute and protects years of progress.
