Serial Port 2

Serial Port 2

Serial Port 2, usually shortened to SP2, is a small expansion connector on the underside of the GameCube near the front. It was barely used by official accessories, but the homebrew scene gave it a second life as a clean route for SD storage.

Why it matters

The SD2SP2 adapter plugs directly into SP2 and holds a microSD card, giving Swiss fast, tidy storage without occupying a memory-card slot. Because it sits flush under the console, it is one of the most elegant entry points available.

Who has it

Most DOL-001 consoles include Serial Port 2. The later DOL-101 revision removed it entirely, so SD2SP2 is not an option on that board.

Confirm the physical port. A subset of late DOL-001 units, sometimes labeled revision 1.1, shipped without the SP2 connector populated. The model number still reads DOL-001, so never assume SP2 is present from the label alone. Flip the console and look.

If your console has SP2, SD2SP2 is a strong default choice: reversible, fast, and unobtrusive. If it does not, an SD Gecko in the memory-card slot covers the same need on any model. Either way the card should be formatted FAT32 with Swiss copied to the root.
