Methods overview
Homebrew on the GameCube
The GameCube has no built-in homebrew menu, so unlocking it means finding a way to run unsigned code. In practice that means launching Swiss, the community's all-purpose loader, through some kind of entry point. Once Swiss is running it can boot .dol and .elf homebrew, as well as full game backups stored as ISOs on an SD card.
The entry points
Every method below exists to get Swiss onto the screen. They differ mostly in cost, permanence, and how much you have to open the console.
- save exploit A corrupted GCMM game save that triggers code execution. No hardware needed.
- SD2SP2 A microSD adapter that fits the unused serial port 2 underneath the system.
- SD Gecko A microSD adapter in a memory card slot, paired with a boot disc like SD Media Launcher.
- PicoBoot A flashed Raspberry Pi Pico soldered inside that auto-boots Swiss at power-on.
- ODE An optical drive emulator such as GCLoader that replaces the disc drive.
Where to start
If you want the cleanest experience, PicoBoot or an ODE are worth the install. For a no-tools start, try the save exploit first, then add an SD adapter for storage.
