HDMI via GCVideo
HDMI via GCVideo
GCVideo is open-source firmware that reads the GameCube's digital video signal and converts it to clean HDMI or DVI. It is the engine behind almost every modern GameCube HDMI solution, from plug-in adapters to fully internal installs.
How it works
GCVideo runs on an FPGA, a reconfigurable chip that taps the digital AV port on DOL-001 consoles. Because it works from the digital signal before any analog conversion, the output is pixel-perfect with no noise. The firmware then formats that data as a standard HDMI stream your television understands.
Features
- Lag-light output: conversion adds minimal delay, important for the Game Boy Player.
- Scanline and deflicker options: emulate a CRT look or smooth interlaced content.
- On-screen menu: adjust scaling, colour, and sound settings live.
- Digital audio: sound travels over the same HDMI cable.
Forms it takes
You can buy ready-made plug-in units that slot into the digital port, or have an internal board installed for a tidy, cable-free look. Both run GCVideo; the choice is about convenience and aesthetics rather than picture quality.
Requires DOL-001
GCVideo needs the digital AV port. DOL-101 consoles cannot use it without far more invasive work.
