What you'll need
The shopping list for GameCube homebrew is short and depends mainly on the entry point you picked. Here is what most setups call for.
Always
- A working GameCube and a controller for navigating Swiss.
- An SD or microSD card formatted as FAT32, where Swiss and your files live.
- A computer to format the card and copy files onto it.
Depending on your method
| Method | Extra hardware |
|---|---|
| Game-save exploit | A compatible retail game and a memory card |
| SD2SP2 | An SD2SP2 adapter (needs Serial Port 2) |
| SD Gecko | An SD Gecko or SD Media Launcher for the card slot |
| PicoBoot | A Raspberry Pi Pico, wire, and soldering gear |
| GCLoader | A GCLoader ODE board and storage |
About the SD card
Most cards work, but smaller and brand-name cards tend to be the most reliable. Keep your card FAT32, not exFAT, and copy Swiss to the root before launching.
No firmware files are downloaded to the console. You only need Swiss itself plus whatever games or apps you intend to run. DOL-001 owners with SP2 have the widest hardware choice.
