Homebrew apps

Useful homebrew apps

Once a loader is in place, a small but capable library of community apps opens up. Most ship as a single DOL or ELF file you launch from Swiss. Below are the ones worth keeping on your card.

Core tools

  • Swiss is the foundation: a file browser, game loader, and patching engine all in one. It handles SD, USB, the DVD drive, and network sources.
  • GameCube Memory Manager (GCMM) backs up and restores memory card saves to SD as GCI or raw images.
  • GCMemcardManager on a PC pairs with it to organise saves across cards.

Emulation and media

  • RetroArch brings a unified front end with cores for NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis, and more.
  • Standalone ports exist for systems like the NES and Game Boy when you want something lighter.
  • Media players can handle basic audio and simple video, though the hardware is limited.

Diagnostics and fun

  • GameCube test apps check controllers, memory cards, the DVD drive, and video output.
  • Demos and small games show off what the hardware can do and make handy stress tests.

Organising your card

Group apps in folders by purpose. Swiss remembers your last location, so a tidy layout speeds up every launch.
