No video

Power off and unplug before reseating internal mods or cables. Discharge static before touching any board, and handle the digital AV port adapter gently.

No video output

A black screen with no picture is alarming but often trivial. The power light tells you a lot: if it is on, the console likely runs and the problem is the video path, not the console itself.

  1. Confirm power: check the power light is on. If it is dark, treat this as a power problem and check the brick and outlet first.
  2. Check input and cable: verify the television is on the right input and the cable is fully seated at both ends.
  3. Swap the cable: try a known-good cable; a broken multi-out plug wire is a common cause of no picture.
  4. Reset video mode: a console left in progressive or an incompatible mode can output a black screen on some displays. Force a standard mode.
  5. Test the mod: for an HDMI adapter, reseat it on the digital port and test the analog output separately to isolate the fault.

Likely causes

  • Wrong television input selected.
  • Faulty or loose video cable.
  • Video mode the display cannot show.
  • An HDMI adapter not seated, or a non-DOL-001 console.

Power light is the clue

Light on usually means a video-path fault. Light off points to power. That split saves a lot of guessing.
