RGB SCART
RGB SCART carries the picture as separate red, green, and blue signals plus sync, producing a clean, sharp image on compatible displays. It is the analog gold standard for CRT television in regions where SCART connectors are common, especially Europe.
How it works on GameCube
The GameCube outputs analog RGB from its multi-out on most consoles, and a dedicated RGB SCART cable routes those signals to a SCART socket. Unlike composite, RGB keeps the colour channels separate, so there is no colour bleed or dot crawl. The result on a good CRT is crisp and vivid.
Regional notes
- PAL consoles output RGB readily and pair naturally with SCART displays.
- NTSC consoles can output RGB too, but many NTSC-region televisions lack RGB SCART input, so S-Video or component is often used instead.
- Sync handling varies; some cables strip sync from a separate line, others use sync on a composite or luma line.
Getting the best result
Pair RGB SCART with a quality CRT or a good upscaler for flat panels. A well-made cable with proper sync handling avoids picture roll and instability. For displays without SCART, an adapter to component or a digital mod may be simpler.
Cable quality matters
Cheap RGB cables can introduce noise or sync issues. A properly shielded cable from a reputable maker makes a visible difference.
