Before You Begin
A little preparation makes the whole process smoother and safer. Gather these items and set your expectations before you start modifying anything.
What you will need
- Your PlayStation 3 with a known model number (CECH-) and firmware version.
- A USB flash drive formatted to FAT32, used to move files onto the console.
- A stable power source. Never start a firmware operation on a console at risk of losing power.
- A computer and a reliable internet connection for downloading the necessary files.
- An external drive or PC with free space for backing up your existing data.
Set your expectations
Take the process slowly. Read each page fully before acting, and never skip steps because they seem tedious. Most problems people run into come from rushing or from using the wrong instructions for their model.
Confirm your console's compatibility route first. Following CFW steps on a model that only supports PS3HEN can leave you stuck partway through. When in doubt, re-read the compatibility page.
Finally, understand that this is your responsibility. You should be comfortable following directions carefully and patient enough to troubleshoot if something does not go exactly as described. take your time The community has documented nearly every situation, so help is available if you get stuck.
