Tools and Software Reference

This page describes the core software used in the PlayStation 3 homebrew ecosystem. Each tool is named in plain text only; search for the official release of any tool you intend to use.

Before you begin

Always download these tools from their original maintainers. Repackaged copies from random sources may be outdated or unsafe.

Custom Firmware (Evilnat)

Evilnat CFW is a popular custom firmware build for exploitable models. It replaces the official system software and bundles useful patches, expanded compatibility, and additional cobra features. Because it is true CFW, it persists across reboots and offers the deepest system access.

PS3HEN

PS3HEN, the Homebrew ENabler, brings CFW-like functionality to hardware-patched consoles that cannot run real CFW. It runs as an exploit on top of official firmware and must be activated from the web browser or an installed shortcut after each boot.

HFW

Hybrid Firmware is a lightly modified version of official firmware that remains close enough to stock to pass as legitimate, while enabling the entry points that HEN requires. It is the usual prerequisite for installing HEN on patched consoles.

webMAN MOD

webMAN MOD is a system management plugin. It handles mounting game backups, controlling fan speed, browsing files, and exposing a web-based control panel accessible from another device on your network.

multiMAN

multiMAN is a long-standing file and game manager with a graphical interface. It organizes your library, mounts discs and backups, and provides file management and backup tools.

IRISMAN

IRISMAN is a lightweight game manager focused on installing and launching backups. It is valued for being fast and simple, and it works alongside webMAN MOD on both CFW and HEN systems.
