CFW vs HEN compared

CFW vs HEN Compared

The two main software routes for PlayStation 3 homebrew are Custom Firmware (CFW) and PS3HEN. They aim at the same goal but suit different consoles and expectations. The table below lays the differences side by side so you can match the right method to your hardware.

Which should you pick?

  • Choose CFW if your model supports it and you want maximum capability with no per-boot step.
  • Choose PS3HEN if your console cannot run CFW, or you prefer to keep the official firmware in place.

The deciding factor

Compatibility usually makes the decision for you. Many newer consoles simply cannot run CFW, in which case PS3HEN with HFW is the standard route. Where both are possible, CFW is generally the more convenient and capable choice.

Confirm your exact model and firmware before committing. The right method depends on hardware you can verify, not guesswork.
