DNS and Update Errors (80710xxx)
Connection attempts end with an 80710 code, often 80710092 or 80710102, meaning the console reached your router but could not resolve or reach the service it wanted. DNS Error
Likely Causes
- The default DNS server is slow, blocked, or no longer answering for the console.
- A network-level filter or restrictive router firewall.
- The target service has been decommissioned, so resolution succeeds but connection times out.
- Heavy congestion causing intermittent timeouts.
Fixes
- Set DNS manually. In connection settings, choose custom DNS and enter a reliable public resolver instead of automatic. This clears most 80710102 cases.
- Restart your router to flush its own DNS cache, then retry the connection test.
- Move the console closer to the router or switch to wired to remove dropouts that mimic DNS faults.
- If only one specific service fails, confirm it is still operational. Retired servers produce these codes permanently.
| Code | Usual Meaning |
|---|---|
| 80710092 | Connection timed out reaching service |
| 80710102 | Cannot connect / DNS resolution failed |
| 80710723 | Router blocking or NAT issue |
Only use DNS servers you trust. A malicious resolver can silently redirect traffic, so stick to well-known public providers.
