Game compatibility
Game Compatibility Notes
Not every backup behaves identically across every setup. How well a game runs depends on your firmware type, your backup manager, and occasionally the title itself. A little awareness here saves a lot of troubleshooting later.
CFW versus HEN
A console running full custom firmware generally has the widest compatibility, since the system itself is modified to mount backups. A non-modifiable console running HEN achieves much of the same result through an exploit, but a small number of titles or features may behave differently.
| Environment | General compatibility |
|---|---|
| CFW | Broadest; most managers fully supported |
| HEN | Very high; occasional edge-case quirks |
Common causes of issues
- Wrong storage format — a game that fails from USB may run fine when copied internally.
- Missing split parts — an incomplete or badly split file will refuse to mount.
- Outdated manager — newer games sometimes need an updated webMAN, multiMAN, or IRISMAN.
- Missing updates — some titles need their game update package installed to run correctly.
When a game won't boot
Test the same title from the internal HDD, confirm the files copied completely, and update your manager. If it still fails, the game may simply need a different mount mode offered by the manager. tip
