Controller issues
Controller Won't Connect or Charge
The controller's lights blink endlessly without pairing, or it refuses to charge and dies almost instantly when unplugged. Controller Bluetooth
Likely Causes
- The controller lost its Bluetooth pairing to the console.
- A worn USB cable that carries power but not enough data, or no power at all.
- An aged internal battery that no longer holds a charge.
- A stuck reset state inside the controller's firmware.
Fixes
- Re-pair by connecting the controller to the console with a USB cable and pressing the PS button. Pairing over USB re-registers it to that specific console.
- Swap the cable. Many charging failures are simply a tired cable; use one known to transfer data, not a charge-only lead.
- Press the tiny reset button on the back of the controller with a pin, then reconnect by USB.
- Let it charge for at least a couple of hours before judging the battery. A deeply drained pack needs time before its light responds.
Battery Replacement
If the controller only works while tethered, the internal lithium battery is likely exhausted. These are user-replaceable with a small screwdriver and an inexpensive compatible cell.
A controller paired to another console will not work wirelessly here until you re-pair it over USB. Sharing pads between systems always requires re-pairing.
