Is My PS3 Compatible?
Every PlayStation 3 can run homebrew, but your exact model decides which route you take. There are two: CFW (Custom Firmware) and PS3HEN (Homebrew Enabler). The deciding factor is whether your console's hardware can accept permanent custom firmware.
Find your model
Flip your console over and look for a number beginning with CECH- printed underneath. This is your model number. To check your firmware version, go to Settings > System > System Information. The latest official firmware is 4.9x.
The compatibility gate
| Model | Type | Recommended route |
|---|---|---|
| CECHA–CECHC (and all Fat) | Fat | CFW (most capable) |
| CECH-20xx / 21xx / 25xx | Slim | CFW supported |
| CECH-30xx | Slim | PS3HEN required |
| CECH-40xx | Super Slim | PS3HEN required |
CFW is permanent and the most capable option, but it only works on all Fat models and Slim consoles up to CECH-25xx. Popular builds include Evilnat.
PS3HEN works on every model and is the required path for Slim CECH-30xx and Super Slim CECH-40xx. It runs on the latest firmware through HFW (Hybrid Firmware) and must be re-enabled after each reboot. all models
