Online play & ban risk

Connecting a modified PlayStation 3 to online services carries a real risk of a permanent console ban. If keeping your PSN access matters to you, the safest choice is to keep your modded system offline.

Online Play & Ban Risk

Going online with custom firmware or HEN is one of the most common ways people lose access to the PlayStation Network. The network compares your console against expected behavior, and a modified machine can stand out in ways you cannot fully control.

Why the risk is higher

  • Modified systems run unsigned software that stock consoles never would.
  • Cheating in online lobbies is highly visible and frequently reported by other players.
  • Bans are typically tied to the console identifier, not just the account, so a banned machine stays banned.

Respect other players

Even setting aside ban risk, using cheats or hacks against people in online matches ruins the experience for everyone. Responsible homebrew is about running your own software and backups, not gaining an unfair edge over others.

If you still choose to go online

  1. Understand that any session could be your last before a ban.
  2. Never load cheats, mods, or trainers in online multiplayer.
  3. Use a secondary account you are willing to lose.
  4. Keep your important saves and licenses backed up beforehand.

There is no method that makes online play on a modded console truly safe. Plan around that reality rather than against it.
