Arcade Emulation on PSP
Classic arcade games can run on the PSP through ports of well-known arcade emulators. Arcade hardware varied enormously, so performance depends heavily on the specific board a game used.
What Runs Well
- Capcom CPS-1 and CPS-2 games, including many fighters and beat-em-ups, run nicely.
- Neo Geo titles are popular, though larger games are demanding.
- Older, simpler arcade boards from the 1980s tend to run at full speed.
ROM Sets Matter
Arcade emulators expect ROMs in a specific zipped set matching the emulator's version. A mismatched set is the most common reason a game refuses to load.
| Hardware | Typical Result |
|---|---|
| CPS-1 / CPS-2 | Good |
| Neo Geo | Playable; heavy on resources |
| Early arcade | Full speed |
BIOS Files
Some systems, notably Neo Geo, require a separate BIOS file placed alongside the ROMs. Without it, games will not start.
Newer or more complex arcade hardware may be slow or unsupported. The PSP shines with the late-80s and early-90s arcade era rather than later 3D boards.
Match your ROM set to the emulator build and keep BIOS files in place for the smoothest experience.
