Common Error Messages
The PSP shows numbered errors when something goes wrong. This reference explains the codes you are most likely to meet while running custom firmware and homebrew.
| Code | Meaning | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|
| 80020148 | Game could not be started | Run homebrew in the correct kernel mode or update the EBOOT |
| 80020321 | Cannot start app under current firmware | Use a CFW build matching the homebrew's required kernel |
| 8002014C | Data is corrupted | Re-copy the file; check Memory Stick health |
| 80010087 | File not found | Verify folder path and EBOOT.PBP placement |
| 80020001 | Generic exploit failure | Reload the save or browser exploit; clear cache |
Reading the Codes
Most codes beginning 8002 relate to loading or signature checks, which usually means a path, kernel, or compatibility problem rather than hardware damage. Codes around 8001 commonly point to missing files or storage issues.
General Approach
When you hit any error, first confirm CFW is active, then check the file is in the right folder with the right name, and finally test a known-good app to isolate whether the problem is the file or the system.
Tip Note the exact code before searching; small digit differences point to very different causes.
