Running homebrew
Launching an EBOOT.PBP
Almost every PSP homebrew application ships as a file named EBOOT.PBP. This single file contains the program, its icon, and metadata the XMB menu reads to display it. Running homebrew is mostly a matter of placing that file in the right folder.
Step by Step
- Connect the PSP to your computer in USB mode, or use a card reader.
- Open the PSP/GAME folder on the Memory Stick.
- Create a new folder named after the app, for example PSP/GAME/MyApp.
- Copy the application's EBOOT.PBP into that folder.
- Disconnect, then go to Game > Memory Stick on the XMB to find the icon.
Folder, Not Loose Files
Each EBOOT belongs in its own subfolder. Dropping it loosely into PSP/GAME will usually make it invisible to the menu.
Kernel Versions
Some older homebrew was built for the 1.50 kernel. On modern CFW you may see two copies of a folder, one with a % prefix, which lets the system pick the correct kernel automatically.
If an app refuses to start or shows a corrupted-data icon, the EBOOT may be damaged, mis-placed, or built for an incompatible firmware version.
Once you understand this layout, installing any new homebrew becomes second nature.
