First boot
First boot & verification
After installing 6.61 Infinity, the next power-on is the moment of truth: the PSP should come up in custom firmware all by itself. A few quick checks confirm everything is working before you start using your console.
Power-cycle test
Fully shut the PSP down, wait a moment, then turn it back on. Because Infinity reapplies the CFW at startup, you should reach the XMB with custom firmware already active and no installer to run.
Confirm the firmware string
- From the XMB, open Settings.
- Select System Settings, then System Information.
- Read the firmware line. It should show 6.61 together with a custom marker such as an Infinity, PRO, or ARK tag.
If you see that custom marker after a clean cold boot, your permanent CFW is installed correctly.
Quick function test
Launch a piece of homebrew or an emulator from the Game menu. If unsigned software runs, the CFW is doing its job. You can also open the recovery menu (hold the relevant button during boot) to view CFW settings.
If it boots to plain 6.61
Should the console come up without the custom marker, Infinity may not have installed cleanly. Re-run the CFW installer to get back into live CFW, then run the Infinity installer again and repeat the power-cycle test.
Once verified, continue to the post-install checklist to finish setting things up.
