6.61 update fails
6.61 Update Fails
You try to bring the PSP to official firmware 6.61 before installing CFW, but the updater stops with an error, refuses to start, or reboots without changing the version.
Common Causes
- Wrong updater file. The EBOOT must be the official 6.61 update; a corrupt or partial download fails verification.
- Already on or above 6.61. The updater refuses to install the same or a lower version.
- Low battery. Updaters demand a charged battery and often a connected charger before running.
- Wrong folder. The update EBOOT must sit in PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP.
Fixes
- Redownload the official 6.61 updater and confirm the file size matches the source; re-copy it to PSP/GAME/UPDATE/.
- Charge the battery above 75% and keep the charger plugged in throughout.
- Check your current firmware; if you are already at 6.61, skip the update and proceed straight to CFW installation.
- If the updater errors mid-way, do not power off; let it finish or reboot on its own, then retry.
Interrupting an official updater can brick the system. Ensure stable power before you begin and never pull the battery during the process.
Once 6.61 is confirmed in System Settings, you can move on to installing a 6.61-compatible CFW.
