Updating to 6.61

Updating to 6.61

Custom firmware requires your PSP to be on official firmware 6.61 first. If System Information shows anything lower, follow this process to update before installing CFW.

  1. Charge or plug in
Make sure the battery is well charged or the AC adapter is connected. A power loss during the update is the main brick risk.
  2. Get the 6.61 update file
Obtain the official 6.61 updater (EBOOT.PBP) and place it on the Memory Stick at PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP.
  3. Launch the updater
On the XMB, go to Game, find the Update entry, and run it. Accept the agreement and let the installer proceed.
  4. Wait for the reboot
The PSP applies the firmware and restarts on its own. Do not touch it until it returns to the menu.
  5. Verify
Open System Information again and confirm it now reads 6.61.

Do not interrupt the update. No button presses, no removing the battery or Memory Stick. Interrupting here can brick the system, and the 3000 and Go cannot be rescued by Pandora's Battery.

No Wi-Fi? No problem

The Street (E1000) and any unit with Wi-Fi off update from the file on the Memory Stick exactly as described above. You do not need an internet connection to reach 6.61.

Once the system reports 6.61, you are ready to move on to ARK-4 or Infinity.
