Memory Stick Types & Sizes
The PSP stores games, saves, homebrew, and CFW files on removable memory. Choosing the right card and formatting it correctly avoids a lot of frustration during installation.
Which card each model uses
| Model | Card type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PSP-1000 / 2000 / 3000 | Memory Stick Pro Duo | Standard slot; widely available |
| PSP Street (E1000) | Memory Stick Pro Duo | Same as the slim models |
| PSP Go | Memory Stick Micro (M2) | Plus large built-in internal storage |
Sizes that work
Genuine and good-quality Memory Stick Pro Duo cards up to 32 GB are the safe, reliable choice and have plenty of room for CFW, homebrew, and a healthy library of game backups. The PSP can use these without any special tricks.
Beware of counterfeit and fake-capacity cards. Cheap cards that claim huge sizes often fail or corrupt data, which can interrupt a CFW install. Buy from reputable sellers and test the card before relying on it.
Formatting
Format the card as FAT32. The easiest, most reliable method is to format it in the PSP itself through the system menu, which sets up the correct folder structure.
The Go is special
Thanks to its internal flash, the PSP Go can run CFW and store games without any external card at all, though an M2 card adds extra space.
